Day 14

A day off in Les Sables.

The forecast was wrong. A glorious, but blustery morning saw me lounging in the fine jacuzzi/solar area of this most excellent hotel.

The view from the lounger was stunning. Not just because I could see over the rooftops to the stormy sea, but also because, without lifting my head, I got an excellent view of the bloke doing building work on a rooftop, reminding me of my good fortune.

Although sunny, the wind was very strong and the sea rough. The hotel is a few yards from the beach so I got a picnic lunch together from my purchases last night and sauntered down.

That is a fishing boat on its way back to port just below the lighthouse!

The town centre, only a few hundred yards from the esplanade, is full of Maison Maître houses and narrow streets. Quite a place. I found the best cafe in France:

And some houses for me to bring Gilly back to see!

The hotel is a real find. For less than 50 euros a night I have a double room with a balcony with table and chairs, a shower room with a shower that lights up, use of the fitness suite and sauna, a jacuzzi (5 euros per 30 mins) on a rooftop solar/lounging area and a panel above my head which lights up at night with a starry constellations.  Then there is the decor! Here is  just a taste from the dining room:

The hotel is the Arc en Ciel Spa.

Gilly! We have to stay here!!

Off to La Tranche sur Mer tomorrow. Hoping for a less damp arrival!
